Kathmandu – Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari, held an introductory meeting with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) 5th Review Mission for the Extended Credit Facility (ECF), led by Ms. Sarwat Jahan, Deputy Division Chief of the Asia Pacific Department, on Monday.
The meeting centered around the objectives and deliverables of the mission, focusing on Nepal’s economic performance, policy adjustments, and progress under the ECF program. The ECF is a financial assistance program designed to support low-income countries with balance of payment needs while promoting macroeconomic stability and structural reforms.
During the discussions, Governor Adhikari and Ms. Jahan reviewed the current economic indicators of Nepal, emphasizing inflation control, foreign exchange reserves, and fiscal consolidation. The review also covered ongoing policy measures aimed at strengthening the financial sector and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
The IMF’s 5th Review under the ECF program plays a critical role in assessing Nepal’s adherence to economic reform targets, which can influence further disbursement of financial support from the IMF. The mission will continue its assessment and engage with various stakeholders during its stay in Nepal.
