Enhancing Cyber Resilience: NRB-AFI Hosts SARFII Regional Training in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, February 19, 2025 – The 6th South Asia Regional Financial Inclusion Initiative (SARFII) Meeting and Regional Training on Enhancing Cyber Resilience for Digital Payments and Infrastructure successfully concluded today in Kathmandu. Hosted by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) in collaboration with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), the event took place from February 17-19, 2025, gathering financial sector leaders and experts from across the region.

The training commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Dilli Ram Pokhrel, setting the stage for engaging discussions on strengthening cybersecurity frameworks in digital financial systems. Kiran Pandit, Executive Director of NRB’s Payment System Department, moderated the sessions, facilitating insightful exchanges among industry experts and policymakers.

Prominent panelists included Tarunpreet Singh, Regulatory Specialist for Mobile Money at GSMA; Prasad Dagle, Assistant General Manager at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI); and Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, CEO of Nepal Clearing House Limited. Their discussions highlighted emerging threats in digital payments and the importance of regulatory policies, technological advancements, and cross-border cooperation to ensure cyber resilience in financial systems.

The SARFII Leaders’ Roundtable and training sessions emphasized the need for robust cybersecurity measures as digital transactions continue to grow across South Asia. The event underscored regional cooperation in addressing vulnerabilities and fortifying payment infrastructures against cyber threats.

Nepal Rastra Bank and AFI expressed their delight in hosting financial leaders in Nepal, a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage, stunning monasteries, and the majestic Mount Everest. Participants appreciated the warm hospitality and the opportunity to collaborate on shaping a secure and inclusive digital financial ecosystem.
