NGCCI facilitates Nepal-UK Investment meet

July 4, 2025, Kathmandu – Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI) in joint collaboration with the Nepal Centre UK organized Nepal-UK Investment meeting in the House of Lords for discuss Nepal and UK trade and investment potentials and increase investment. High-level senior government officials from Nepal and the UK, including senior businesspeople, took part at the event held in London on July 2, 2025.
Sushil Gyawali, CEO at the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) speaking at the investment meeting, briefed about Nepal’s investment potential in areas such as energy, tourism and infrastructure. Mr Gyawali stressed that Nepal has already improved its investment environment, which is encouraging for foreign investors at the moment. He said that Nepal has already streamlined the various processes and offered attractive incentives. As Nepal is also in the process of attracting foreign investment in the hydropower, airport modernization and hospitality sectors, CEO Gyawali suggested UK investors exploit the unlimited potential that Nepal possesses. Baroness Verma at the same meeting presented her view that, as Nepal is situated strategically between India and China, it became an ideal investment destination. She was of the opinion that British businesses also need to consider Nepal as an important investment destination as it possesses huge potential. At the same time, implementation concerns were also raised by UK-based entrepreneurs, and they also appreciated Nepal’s investment reforms.
At the same meeting, George Chacko, a London-based tech entrepreneur, expressed his happiness over the policies, terming them as promising. However, he also suggested being consistent when it comes to execution on the ground. Similarly, Mr Rabindra Jung Lamichhane of Gini London mentioned various bureaucratic hurdles on the investment front.
NGCCI President, Mr. Santosh Chandra Kunwar facilitated the meeting and requested all interesting entrepreneurs to increase investment in Nepal. Nepal is increasingly turning out to be a promising country for foreign investment, Mr Kunwar suggested.
Nepalese Ambassador to the UK, Mr Chandra Ghimire, stressed that he would extend full support to serious investors from the Embassy as required. He also highlighted various issues surrounding Nepal’s investment potential and cooperation being extended to investors to make the investment more promising and sustainable. It was fascinating to see the case studies at the meeting regarding successful UK-Nepal collaboration in the industry, which was presented by Fashion Designer Mr Sanyukta Shrestha. Mr Nirmal Kumar Thapa of Nepal Centre UK, one of the organizers of the event, said that an investment dialogue of this kind would really help to enhance economic engagement between Nepal and UK. Mr Thapa expected that the British Trade Delegation will also visit Kathmandu later this year. He also shared that various UK firms are reportedly showing interest in exploring Nepali ventures.
